Improving forest resource assessment and forest climate mitigation policies
On 1st April we had two speakers on the topic of forestry:
Speaker 1:
Prof Göran Ståhl
Professor at the Department of Forest Resource Management, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
Title: Using remote sensing data for model-based and model-assisted forest resource assessment
Speaker 2:
Dr David Ellison
Independent Researcher and External Consultant Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Sweden
Title: Europe's Forest Sink Obsession
We had an interesting discussion about uncertainty in forest resource assessments as well as the improvements needed to better adapt forest policy to act on climate. We discussed how current forest policy needs to incentivise forest owners to act on climate and that there is not necessarily a trade-off between forest use and climate mitigation.
