PL 2.0

In 2015 the research program 'Towards Precision Agriculture 2.0' was started..

The goal of this four year public-private research program on strategic themes  regarding Precision Agriculture (PA), is to stimulate the implementation of PA technology, to increase  the benefits for farmers, chain parties and society in general and increasing agricultural sustainability. The group of 20 participating project partners consists of end users, supply companies and research institutes.

Early precision farming technologies such as  positioning and navigation technology are common practise in Dutch agriculture. 'Towards Precision Agriculture 2.0' will incorporate and further develop these technologies towards smarter applications of remote and nearby sensor data, site-specific data from soils and crops and decision support systems.

Some of the challenges in this research program are: the delivering of satellite images with the required temporal resolution, how accurate are the available sensor-data, integration of sensor data using decision support systems (DSS), what is needed to achieve cost-effective variable rate application (VRA) of soil pesticides and fertilizers, and how do prototypes of these technologies perform? Furthermore, better use of weather information in VRA technology and field plot characteristics for estimating yield potential will be explored.
